Dernier destroyer nécron / Last Necron Destroyer

Dans la lignée des précédents articles postés sur les comtes vampires, je vous présente aujourd'hui le dernier destroyer qu'il me restait à peindre pour obtenir une armée de 2000 points complète de nécrons. Encore une pièce d'occasion achetée sur Ebay, décapée au Bendix et repeinte entièrement. J'avais fait une affaire mais je me suis rendu compte qu'il n'y avait pas la tête. Normalement, dans ce cas, j'achète un bitz pour remplacer la pièce manquante, mais là je ne trouvais pas chaussure à mon pied pour moins de 10 €, donc autant vous dire que je n'avais pas envie de dépenser autant pour une tête de destroyer. J'ai donc tout simplement mis à la place une tête de traqueurs, ce que ne se verra pas vraiment sur le champ de bataille.

In line with the previous articles posted on vampires counts, I introduce to you today the last destroyer I painted to get a full 2000 points army of Necrons. Again I bought this second-hand model on Ebay, removed the existing paint with Bendix 55 and repainted it completely. It was a bargain but I realized that there was no head on the miniature. Normally, in this case, I buy a Bitz to replace the missing piece, but in that cas I could not find what I needed for less than €10, so let me tell you I didn't want to spend that much for a destroyer head . In the end, I replace the missing head with a tracker head, someting you don't really see on the battlefield.

Roi Liche / Lich King

Pour ceux qui attendaient ce moment avec impatience, voici la dernière photo de la dernière figurine peinte pour atteindre 2000 points de comtes vampire : le roi liche. En fait, cette figurine ne faisait pas partie de mes plans initiaux, mais en attendant 20 minutes devant la gare Saint-Lazare pour partir en week-end, j'ai quand même été obligé de passer au GW pour faire un tour. Et là, petite figurine à 11,5€ d'un énorme squelette en armure trop stylé, j'ai été obligé de l'acheter. Comme cela faisait assez longtemps que je n'avais pas acheté une figurine neuve, j'ai eu l'occasion de monter chaque morceau sur une tige de métal afin de peindre à l'aérographe convenablement. J'ai été assez feignant puisque je n'ai même pas daigné peindre les gemmes, mais bon, il fera un bon champion squelette :

For those who have be awaiting this moment, this is the last picture of the last painted figure that allowed me to build my 2,000 points Vampire Counts: the Lich King. In fact, this figurine was not part of my initial plans, but I had to wait 20 minutes in front of Saint-Lazare station as I was going away for the weekend and I really had to have a look inside the GW. And there, a figurine at only 11.5 €: a very stylish huge skeleton in armor, so I was forced to buy it. As I have spent long time without buying a brand new figure, I had the opportunity to glue each piece on a metal rod in order to properly airbrush it. I was quite lazy since I did not even bother to paint the gems, but hey, this model will make a good skeleton champion :

Régiment de goules terminé / Crypt ghouls unit painted

Et voilà, les 30 goules sont terminées, magnétisées et soclées. J'ai eu besoin d'un peu de motivation pour m'y mettre mais le tout a été globalement rapide. Avec Vlad et le Roi Liche que j'ai peints il y a trois jours, j'ai entièrement terminé mon armée de 2000 points de Comtes Vampires. Le bilan est plutôt positif car le temps pour monter et peindre une telle armée a été très bas avec la lasure et l'aérographe et le rendu franchement bien pour du tabletop. Maintenant, je m'attaque à ce qu'il me reste de 40k à savoir les Salamanders et les Catachan, mon armée de Nécron étant quasiment finie!

Voilà donc quelques photos pour tenter d'oublier l'Age de Sigmar :

And now, the 30 ghouls are all painted, magnetized with their bases done. I needed a little motivation to get the job done but it went fast enough. Along with Vlad and the Lich King I finished three days ago, I completely finished my Vampire Counts 2000 points army. The result is quite positive because the time I spent assembling and painting such an army was very low thanks to dipping and the airbrush and frankly looks pretty great for tabletop miniatures. Now, it's time to start working on what I have left of Warhammer 40k namely Salamanders and Catachan as I also painted my Necron army entirely!

Vlad von Carstein - Seigneur Vampire / Vampire Lord

Ce week-end, j'ai été efficace puisque j'ai pu terminer à la fois mon armée de 2000 points de comtes vampires et 2000 points de nécrons. Alors préparez-vous pour l'avant dernière photo de comtes vampires avec celle de Vlad von Carstein qui fera office de seigneur vampire. Seulement trois petites soirées pour le peindre. Il n'est pas fantastique mais fera le taf pour commander ma horde de mort-vivants. J'ai préféré opter pour une armure entièrement dorée plutôt que noire car je trouve que la gamme "Vallejo Liquid Gold" fait réellement des merveilles. Pour la peau, je suis parti d'une couche d'os blanchi sur laquelle j'ai passé un lavis de Seraphim Sepia pour donner l'impression d'une peau flêtrie. Le reste est assez classique.

This weekend, I was effective since I was able to complete both my 2 000 points vampire counts army and 2000 points worth of necrons. So get ready for the penultimate vampire counts picture with that of Vlad von Carstein who will be used as a vampire lord. Only three evenings to paint him. He doesn't look fantastic but will do the job to control my undead horde. I opted for a fully golden armor rather than a black one because I feel the "Vallejo Liquid Gold" range really does wonders. For the skin, I started with a layer of bleached bone on which I applied a wash of Seraphim Sepia to give the impression of withered skin. The rest is fairly standard.

Et de deux monolithes / And two monoliths

J'ai enfin terminé le deuxième de mes deux monolithes nécrons. Il ne me manquait plus qu'à peindre les armes en noirs, les insignes en doré et à appliquer les décalcomanies. J'avais tellement attendu avant de terminer que j'ai quand du passer 20 minutes à enlever la poussière du monolithe pour pouvoir passer une couche de vernis.

I finally finished the second of my two Necron monoliths. I only needed to paint the weapons black , the insigna with gold and apply the decals. I had waited so long before finishing this model that I had to spend 20 minutes removing dust from the monolith before applying a layer of matt varnish.

Premier skaven pour Mordheim/First Skaven for Mordheim

J'en ai sûrement déjà parlé, mais cet été, nous allons faire quelques parties de Mordheim. Pour ma part, entre les morts vivant, les impériaux, les mercenaires ou les hauts-elfes, j'ai de quoi me créer une bonne team qui sera déjà peinte. Mon pote Nono, mon adversaire orques et gobelins et plus récemment hommes-lézards, m'a donc fait chez lui un briefing des parties à suivre. Il a notamment investi 10€ dans l'achat de bâtiment en pdf à imprimer sur du papier cartonné, ce qui me fait d'ailleurs penser qu'il faut que je fasse une photo de la première maison construite. Il avait aussi chez lui de quoi monter une belle petite bande de skavens bien vintage comme il faut. En regardant l'état et l'âge de la peinture, j'ai proposé mes services pour leur redonner un coup de neuf, sachant qu'il s'agit de vieilles figurines pour la plupart, avec des globadiers, des jezzails, des rats et même un rat-ogre ! Entre deux goules, j'ai donc profité de la lasure pour peindre rapidement mon premier skaven, toujours avec la même technique :

I have probably already talked about it, but this summer, we intend to play a few games of Mordheim. For me, between the vampire counts, the Empire, the dogs of war or the high elves, I have enough to create a good team that will already be painted. My buddy Nono, my opponent who plays orcs and goblins and more recently lizard men, gave me a briefing at his flat about the future games we will play. He has invested 10 € to purchase pdf buildings to print on card stock, which also makes me think that I have to post a picture of the first house I built. He also had with him everything you need to make a nice little band of Skavens. Looking at the condition and age of painting, I offered my services to give them a bit of a facelift, knowing that these are mostly old figurines with globadiers, jezzails, rat swarms and even a Rat Ogre! Between two ghouls, I used my dipping method to quickly paint my first Skaven, always with the same technique : 

Escouade de Commandement de Catachan/Catachan Command Squad : Morpheus is awesome

Après avoir longtemps hésité hier soir, je me suis enfin décidé pour la tête à mettre sur mon vétéran de Catachan avec plasma. Et finalement, j'ai opté pour un Morpheus qui claque grave.

Je vous laisse juger :

After a long hesitation last night, I finally decided which head to put on my Catachan veteran with plasma. In the end, I opted for an awesome Morpheus.

La fin est là : l'âge de Sigmar / This is the end : Age of Sigmar

Bon ça y est, je me réveille avec la gueule de bois. Déjà que je dors super mal à cause de cette canicule, si les mauvaises nouvelles affluent au réveil, c'est l'angoisse. Je lis mes mails au réveil avec évidemment celui qu'on attendait depuis un petit moment avec (sans) impatience, celui de Games Workshop concernant leur nouveau bébé : l'Age de Sigmar. Et là, c'est le drame. Ou plutôt le grand schisme entre à mon sens 1) les vétérans de la première heure ayant connu le bon Warhammer bien vintage qui était un jeu de F-A-N-T-A-S-Y et 2) la nouvelle génération qui pensera qu'il n'y a que des Space Marines dans le passé comme dans le futur...

Qu'on soit d'accord, je n'ai absolument rien contre les Space Marines, j'en ai une jolie armée, mais ça reste des Space Marines et 40k reste 40k. Déjà que GW a sucré tous les Specialist Games qui offraient des possibilités infinies à peu de frais : et oui, 500F de Space Hulk à l'époque et on pouvait jouer 15 ans ; ils se mettent à détruire le jeu le plus emblématique de leur gamme, celui qui les a fait connaître.

Well that's it, I wake up with a hangover. I already barely sleep because of this heat wave, so if the bad news flock when I wake, it's horrible. I read my emails just after waking up and of course the one we have been looking forward to read (or not) from Games Workshop concerning their new baby: the Age of Sigmar. And there is the drama. Or rather, in my opinion, the great schism between 1) the veterans from the old guard who have known the good old fashioned Warhammer that was a F-A-N-T-A-S-Y game and 2) the new generation who will think that there are only Space Marines in the past as well as in the future ...

Let's be clear, I have absolutely nothing against the Space Marines, I have a pretty Salamanders army, but Space Marines remain Space Marines and 40k remains 40k. GW has already cancelled all the Specialist Games that offered endless possibilities without spending too much: in deed, Space Hulk cost 500F at the time and we could play for 15 years; and now they begin to destroy the most iconic games of their entire range, the one that made them famous.

Concernant l'Age of Sigmar :

Regarding the Age of Sigmar:

Sigmarites = Blood Angels

Khorne = Space Marines du Chaos

2) Les règles que j'ai parcourues tiennent sur 4 pages, franchement, même Space Hulk qui est un jeu simpliste a au moins 20 pages de règles. Je n'ai pas encore testé donc je ne peux pas critiquer la jouabilité, mais bon à ce stade, je suis pas super motivé.

2) The rulebook I read quickly consist only of 4 pages, frankly, even Space Hulk is a simple game and has at least at 20 pages rulebook. I have not tested it so I cannot yet criticize the gameplay, but at this stage, I'm not very motivated.

3) La rumeur se confirme donc bien, socles ronds pour tout le monde. Alors ok, on peut utiliser ses anciennes figurines avec les socles carrés bla bla bla. Mais l'essence même de Warhammer, ce sont des régiments, oui je dis bien régiments, alignés qui s'apprêtent à faire une bataille rangée sur une plaine moyenageuse. Warhammer c'est ça :

3) The rumor is confirmed : round bases for everyone. So ok, we can use our old figures with square bases bla bla bla. But the essence of Warhammer are the regiments, yes I mean regiments lined up, getting ready to start a battle in a medieval plain. This is Warhammer :

Alors si c'est pour nous faire un mix de W40k et du Seigneur des Anneaux... NON MERCI

So if they want to make a mix of W40k and Lord of the Rings ... NO THANKS

Donc c'est ça la V9 tant annoncée ?? Franchement, je suis scandalisé. Et oui, Age of Sigmar n'est pas juste un jeu en plus de Warhammer Fantasy Battle mais est bien amené à remplacer notre jeu adoré, comme en témoigne le site internet : regardez en haut à gauche, vous comprendrez.

So, that's the much announced V9 ?? Frankly, I am shocked. And yes, Age of Sigmar is not just a game in addition to Warhammer Fantasy Battle, but will replace our beloved game, as observed on the website: look at the top left side of the screen, you will understand.

Je crois que cette évolution reflète bien le changement de génération. Je n'aurais jamais cru me considérer comme ancien de quelque chose, mais je vieillis comme tout le monde. Je ne dis pas que c'était forcément mieux avant, mais avant on prenait le temps, on lisait 150 pages de règles, en anglais peut-être parce qu'on avait le temps... et il y avait de la diversité, plus de folie dans ce jeu, je ne pensais pas que dans les sinistres ténèbres d'un lointain futur, il n'y avait que Warhammer 40k et sa copie...

I think this evolution reflects the change of generations. I would never have considered myself a veteran of something, but I'm getting older like everybody else. I'm not saying it was necessarily better before, but before, we took the time to read 150 pages of rules, in English (yes I'm French), perhaps because we had the time ... and there was diversity, more madness in this game, I did not think in the grim darkness of the far future, there would only be Warhammer 40k and its copy ...

Escouade de Commandement de Catachan montée / Catachan Command Squad built

Bon voilà, un peu de modélisme au milieu de cette frénésie de peinture. Mon objectif, simple et clair, est de monter une troisième armée pour Warhammer 40k (même si au vu des nouvelles figurines de l'Age de Sigmar, je peux considérer que j'ai déjà six armées de 40k)... :( 

Bien sur, j'ai fait l'erreur de trainer sur le site de GW et d'apercevoir, après avoir montré à ma femme et ma belle-soeur cette série de films awesome qu'est Rambo, une belle armée de Catachan. Je sais c'est pas bien, même si j'ai quasiment fini de toute peindre mes armées Battle, il me reste encore tous mes Salamanders à terminer. Alors pourquoi ai-je fait l'erreur de cliquer sur commander une fois la boîte de guerriers de Catachan dans le panier ? Seul Dieu le sait... J'aurais pu m'arrêter là si mes parents ne m'avaient pas offert une sentinelle pour Noël en me disant : tu as 28 ans, tu es un adulte maintenant, tu es marié, mais tu joues encore avec des petits soldats. Ou encore ma femme, qui après mon opération des dents m'a pris par la main et m'a emmené chez GW pour me consoler de mon gros bobo. Ces attentions tellement gentilles, appuyés d'un regard insistant comme ça :

Well, let's talk modeling amid my painting frenzy. My goal, plain and simple, is to build a third army for Warhammer 40k (although given the new figures of the Age of Sigmar, I can consider that I have six 40k armies) ... :(

Of course, I made the mistake of paying a visit to the GW website and I saw, after showing my wife and my sister-in-law this awesome film series that is Rambo, a fine Catachan army . I know it's not good, even though I almost finished painting all my armies for Warhammer Battle , I still have all my Salamanders to finish. So why have I made the mistake to order a box of Catachan Jungle Warriors? Only God knows ... I could have stopped there if my parents had not offered me a Sentinel for Christmas saying: you're 28, you're an adult now, you're married, but you still play with toy soldiers. Or my wife, who after my surgery took me by the hand to the GW store to comfort me after my big wound. These nice touches, backed by an insistent look like this:

Les figurines sont magnifiques et pleines de petits détails :

• Le commandant semble affublé d'un couvre-chef s'inspirant clairement de la "casquette bigeard" utilisée par l'Armée française pendant la guerre d'Algérie
• The commander appears to be wearing headgear clearly inspired by the "bigeard cap" used by the French Army during the Algerian War

• Le médecin a un masque sur visage qui m'a fait froid dans le dos, car il ressemble étrangement au docteur fou que l'on peut rencontrer dans Bioshock et qui m'a glacé le sang quand j'y jouais la nuit :
• The doctor has a  face mask which made me shudder because it resembles the mad doctor that may be encountered in Bioshock and who frightend the hell out of me when I was playing at night :

• J'ai laissé une tête vide pour l'instant, car je vais utiliser une de mes têtes Dragonforge pour le vétéran avec fuseur. Comme j'aimerais avoir une armée multi-ethnique, je vais commencer par diversifier mon escouade de commandement : deux noirs (fuseur et médecin), trois blancs (commandant, étendard et le radio). J'hésite encore entre la tête de Blade et le Morpheus au cigare :
• I left an empty head for now, because I will use one of my Dragonforge heads for the veteran carrying the melta. As I would like to have a multi-ethnic army, I will start by diversifying my Command Squad: two blacks (melta and doctor), three white (commander, standard bearer and radioman). I hesitate between the head of Blade and  the Morpheus with a cigar:

Premier test de peinture d'un Genestealer de Space Hulk avec l'aide de la lasure / Dipping a Space Hulk Genestealer : first test

En attendant quelques photos de mon régiment de goules complet (il me reste à terminer les socles), j'ai décidé de me faire plaisir en continuant sur ma folie de lasure. Je suis donc allé rechercher mes genestealers de Space Hulk dans leur boîte. J'ai toujours trouvé que le schéma de couleur le plus cool pour eux était celui de la flotte ruche Kraken (os blanchi et rouge) :

While waiting for some pictures of my finished crypt ghouls (I still have to finish the bases), I decided to enjoy myself while continuing to practice my dipping method. So I went looking for my Space Hulk Genestealers in their box. I have always felt the coolest color scheme for them was "Hive Fleet Kraken" (bleached bone and red):

D'une part je trouve que ce schéma de couleur est joli, et d'autre part, il est très pratique pour continuer d'utiliser la lasure. En effet, l'os blanchi rend très bien avec la lasure, ce dont je me suis rendu compte avec mon régiment de squelettes, tout comme le rouge dont les ombrages sont bien accentués par le côté un peu marron. Mais surtout, il me reste une bombe Army Painter os blanchi à moitié pleine, donc autant l'utiliser!

On one hand I think this color scheme is pretty, and on the other hand, it is perfect for dipping. Indeed, the bleached bone works very well with the dip, something I realized with my skeletons unit, and the red shades are accentuated by the slightly brown tone of the dip. But above all, I still have an Army Painter spray can of bleached bone half full, so why not use it!

Du coup, j'ai procédé très simplement : sous-couche os blanchi, rouge pour la carapace, Scorpion green pour les yeux, Bugman's Glow pour la langue et blanc pour les griffes et les dents. Ensuite vient le petit passage à la lasure et une couche de vernis mat. Franchement, 15 minutes suffisent pour un genestealer, ce qui me dit que ça me fera au moins une ou deux soirées d'été.

So, I simply used the following method : bleached bone undercoat, red for the shell, Scorpion green for the eyes, Bugman's Glow for the tongue and white for claws and teeth. Then I dipped the mini and applied a layer of matt varnish. Frankly, 15 minutes are enough for a Genestealer, which tells me that I'll spend at least one or two summer evenings on the rest of them.

Une larme va couler : je termine après 15 ans mon armée de l'Empire (enfin presque) / I will shed a tear: I finished my Empire army after 15 years (well...almost)

Bon pas vraiment, étant donné que j'ai pris la décision (conne ?) de repeindre certaines figurines jugées trop moches, j'aurais pu avoir fini bien avant. C'était notamment le cas de mes chevaliers impériaux qui me servaient de gros régiment de cavalerie à côté des chevaliers du Loup Blanc. Peints à la vite, ils constituaient la honte de l'armée impériale à tel point que je rechignais à une certaine époque à les utiliser. Bon, ce qui est dommage, c'est que je n'ai pas fait de photos avant/après. En général, quand la peinture part en 5 minutes après avoir trempé les figurines dans le Bendix, c'est que ça valait pas grand chose.

Well not really, since I made the decision (stupid?) of repainting some figurines deemed too ugly, I could have finished much earlier. This was the case with my imperial knights who were my large cavalry regiment alongside the knights of the White Wolf. Painted quickly, they were the shame of the imperial army to the point where I was reluctant at one time to use them in battle. I haven't done before / after photos which is unfortunate. Usually, when the paint goes off in 5 minutes after soaking the figurines Bendix 55, it's because they were really badly painted.

En realité, il me reste 6 chevaux à terminer, les cavaliers étant tous terminés. Je suis à deux doigts de terminer et je traine, depuis deux mois avec ces chevaux dans un coin alors que je pourrais enfin me consacrer pleinement au reste, mais bon, un peu comme les français à Roland-Garros, j'hésite au moment où je peux terminer et ça finit en 5 sets... Donc voilà, après avoir terminé les goules pour les Comtes Vampires, je finirai ces chevaux à la sueur de mon front, pour pouvoir passer l'été sur les Salamanders, les Catachan et les quelques skavens que j'ai récupérés pour Mordheim.

Actually, I still have 6 horses to finish, the riders being all painted. I'm on the verge of completing and I have been dragging for two months with these horses in a corner while I could finally devote myself entirely to what I have left to paint, but hey, a little like the French players at the French Open, I hesitate at the crucial moment where I could finish and the game lasts 5 sets ... So now, after painting the ghouls for my Vampire Counts army, I will finish the horses by the sweat of my brow, so I can spend the summer on the Salamanders, Catachan and the few Skavens I got for Mordheim.

Qu'il est bon de prendre ses vacances en septembre et de passer l'été sur ses figs...
